Are gtlds dead, or is it still too early to tell if they’re going to take off?

New sales of Generic Top-level domains took a nose-dive in 2019 with a $2 million dollar drop in sales as compared to 2018.

New gtlds such as .sexy, .club, .buzz, and .life haven’t been drawing as much interest, or the same prices, in the past year as in previous years.

In 2017 the top sales of gtlds were going for 6 figures. In 2018 that was down to about $50,000. This year saw top sales of gtlds only reach half of that at about $25,000.

What do you think about the future of gtlds?

Dead. Sales are dropping and no longer “new”.

You terminology is wrong though because gTLDs are mostly .com/.net/.org.

gTLDs include old and new. So yes perhaps the question is about new TLDs and not gTLDs.

New TLDs in graphical format see https://ntldstats.com/ and remember that a significant portion of these were given away as freebies or sold for peanuts to prop up the extension in question.

They are all complete duds. People don’t want cheap land in the middle of nowhere. They want main street.
