auDA Snippets – 11th October 2016

Here are a few snippets relating to the business of domain names and auDA.

auDA

The auIGF kicked off in Melbourne today. I watched a live stream broadcast – the opening speeches were good. Not sure how long that link will work – but at this stage you can rewind. It kicks off at about the 26 minute mark.

Highlights so far:

Chairman’s Intro – Stuart Benjamin had a short speech where he also announced a few new appointments.

  • Michaella Richards as the new Demand Class Director replacing Miguel Wood. LinkedIn profile
  • Rachael Falk has joined the team at auDA as Director Technology, Security and Strategy. LinkedIn profile

He also announced the date for the AGM – 28th November. Anyway considering standing for the Board should have their skates on!

CEO Intro – Cameron Boardman made an excellent speech. I have to say I am very encouraged by what he had to say – and his vision for the future. One of his main points is that he wants to engage with all stakeholders. If that actually comes to be, then that is very refreshing.

auDA ScamWatch

Good news – the website I wrote about on the weekend has been taken down. It is now on the Deleted Domains List (Policy Delete). Well done auDA!

Unfortunately, nothing as yet has been done about cryogen.com.au – the story featured on Domainer yesterday.

Hopefully, some action will happen today. Peoples credit cards are at risk.

Having heard what Stuart had to say about Michaella and Leonie, and a quick look at their LinkedIn profiles, no doubt they are well credentialed directors.

The lack of genuine small business representation on the board is still quite glaring though, given that small business would presumably make up the largest number of domain name owners in Australia.
