Good generic and brandable domains are not easy to obtain these days.
And if you are lucky enough to acquire a good one, you generally have to pay big bucks!
As a domainer, I try and look at things from outside the square. If you can’t get the actual one or two word generic or brandable domain name, what would be the next best option? What would appeal to an enduser?
My 3 letter solution
I simply love the word “THE” – 3 letters and innocuous. Capable of being shoved in front of a lot generic or brandable words.
According to an online source:
The, the most frequently used word in the English language.
The is one of the grammatical words of English. It does not have any real meaning by itself, but rather it is used as a way of sending a signal about other words. The words it sends signals about are always nouns.
Now not everyone is going to agree with me here – but as they say in the classics:
” The proof of the pudding is in the eating “.
Over the past 12 months, I have sold a number of com.au domains with the word “The” out front.
Sale prices ranged from $1130 + GST up to $4630 + GST.
And my average cost was less than $100! Work out the ROI on those sales.
What domains work with “The” ?
I think there are plenty. Let’s look at some examples of mine.
- If you can’t get (or afford) BookStore.com.au – why not try for TheBookStore.com.au?
- Ditto with regards Gym.com.au – how about TheGym.com.au?
- Ditto with Conveyancer.com.au – what about trying TheConveyancer.com.au?
- Ditto with BarossaValley.com.au – why not TheBarossaValley.com.au?
I’m sure you get my “drift”.
Domains with ” The ” out front are going to be much cheaper – and in my opinion, they can be just as effective as the shorter version.
Just my opinion as always. 🙂 Best wishes for your online success.
I’m a big fan of ‘the’ domains as you know!
It makes sense for many businesses to brand themselves as ‘the’ place. Names like ‘TheTeaShop.com.au’ or ‘TheJewelleryStore.com.au’ are brands in a box and I’ve done well with these types of domains.
