Had a great lunchtime meetup yesterday with two legends of our Aussie domaining community – Don Rankin and Jeff Marr.
These are two of the most likeable guys you could ever hope to meet, and their knowledge and experience (in their particular fields) is a joy to behold. I could have sat chatting all afternoon – and still would have been hungry for more!
What I really like about them is that they are both quiet achievers. These are two very successful men with high octane levels of determination – but they remain modest and approachable.
Don has been a friend for many a year, and he was kind enough to do a podcast interview with me last year.
I hadn’t met Jeff previously, though we have exchanged emails and phone calls. Jeff took the trouble to drive up from the Gold Coast – and he even shouted us lunch (which Don and I really appreciated)! Thanks Jeff. đŸ™‚
I’m hoping to do an interview with Jeff in the very near future, because his story is fascinating. For those that are not aware of some of his background, Jeff (and his business partner Dean) started up Boomerang which evolved to OMG (Online Marketing Group). They acquired a portfolio of around 30,000 .au domain names – some of which were simply the best in the business. They sold their business to Fairfax Media back in 2008.
What a lot of people don’t know that they also started Domain8 which was acquired by Fabulous and became Drop.com.au!
I’ll save the rest for our interview. It’s a great story.
Here’s a piccie of Jeff and Don (apologies for the quality!) …
Can’t wait for the interview. This is some great Australian domain name history, right here!
