On The Way Home

The last 10 days have been very special. My first visit ever to the USA (believe it or not!) – but it certainly won’t be my last.

I came over especially for NamesCon – the Domain Name Industry Event held in Las Vegas. If you’re serious about the business of domain names (and all that they entail), then you just have to make it to the next event.

In the Australian market (.au), I consider myself a medium size fish swimming in a small fishbowl. In the USA, I had the pleasure (and awe) of meeting some of the small, medium and large fish that swim in the giant aquarium that is .com!

The insights that I got – and the contacts that I made – these will help take my business to the next level. I certainly don’t believe that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks!

I split my time evenly between Las Vegas and San Francisco (with about a day all up transiting in Los Angeles). Whilst Vegas was eye-opening as a destination, San Francisco was real. I loved almost everything about SFO – the beauty, the sights, the architecture, the people. The only thing is that it’s not cheap when our dollar sits at about .69 cents to theirs!

Martin Luther King Day

As I head for home tonight, I’m aware that it is a very special day in the USA today.

Like Nelson Mandela in South Africa, Martin Luther King, JR had a great effect on what is modern America today.
