Reflections On A Sunday – 10 April

Ross RiverAnother picturesque shot of part of Townsville. This was taken about 500 metres from my house during a walk “around the bridges” (Ross River). There was some rain in the distance which threw up this fantastic rainbow. This section of the river teems with bird life, kayakers, rowers and the occasional freshwater crocodile! About 800 metres east of this point is Aplins Weir – that’s where the saltwater crocs are. 🙂

Reflection 1

Got a really big story on the drawing boards. This should be ready by Wednesday.

It should rock the boat quite a bit, but in my opinion, it is a boat that truly needs rocking. Can’t say any more than that at this stage.

Reflection 2

Another big sale should be going through this week. It is a one-word generic, and the buyer is the holder of the dot com. It has taken it a while to get this one over the line, but we are almost there.

As I’ve written before, in my opinion there is a huge untapped market for .au domain names. That market is overseas buyers who have the dot com. These businesses can quite legitimately purchase .au domains under existing auDA policy. These are the avenues available to them:

  • a foreign company licensed to trade in Australia; or
  • an owner of an Australian Registered Trade Mark; or
  • an applicant for an Australian Registered Trade Mark

If you want to get a fair and reasonable price for your premium domains, them my advice is to put a bit of extra effort in and learn how easy it is to make a sale happen by one of the three methods above.

One caveat though. It is important to get properly advised by a good IP / TM lawyer to make sure you are doing it right!

Reflection 3

It’s mixed emotions for me this weekend. My youngest son Will (18) left home on Friday to head for the “big smoke” in Brisbane and a career in fitness.

Whilst he wasn’t a big fan of school, he hung in there and finished Year 12 and got good marks. But he doesn’t want to go to Uni at this stage. Instead he completed a Cert IV in Personal Training, and is now armed and dangerous. 🙂

What I admire most about him is his self-discipline (though this doesn’t extend to cleaning his room or his car!). He has trained at the gym almost every day for two years; and has mostly prepared his own healthy meals during this time. That is dedication for someone so young.

On his own volition, he arranged some interviews with gyms in Brisbane a couple of weeks ago, and then flew down there to meet the people. He got himself some great offers, and he has chosen a reasonably new startup to hitch his star to.

So he packed his car on Friday, and off he went.

With his determination, I know he will succeed big time. Good luck Will! 🙂

As always, I welcome your comments and thoughts.

Best wishes for your online success.

I have been very busy with Uni, but I try to keep informed about domains too. 🙂

I may move back to QLD this year. Townsville is an option that I am looking at.

        Take care!
