No words really necessary – other than I hope Shane Moore puts his hand up for this position. Shane only narrowly failed to get elected at last November’s election (coming in third just behind Simon Johnson and Tim Connell).
This issue of seeking candidates from the particular membership class was discussed in-depth at the recent Special General Meeting. Shane absolutely qualifies.
He had already announced his intention to stand as a Demand Class candidate, so given that the appointment is only until this year’s AGM (it is filling a “casual vacancy”), he will at least get 3 months experience at the coalface. He can then campaign with confidence for a new term.
I wish Dr Michaella Richards well.
Ned O’Meara – 16th August 2017
Now is not the time to focus upon yet another unscheduled departure from SS auDA. The time for that analysis will come soon enough.
But I would like to suggest Shane takes note of this and gets his name in there quick-smart.
It is only a 3 month temporary appointment. auDA does not need to spend more money on a complicated and expensive recruitment process.
Just appoint the guy who missed out last November by just 4 votes, and lets get on with business.
From now on whoever gets the role auDA Demand Class Representative Director role needs to have real Australian Domain Name Industry Demand Class experience and they should be auDA Demand class members, auDA needs to change their eligibility and methods of recruitment etc.
Regarding Board and Elections I have written to auDA with suggestions so they can more properly prepare and make improvements now in time for the 2017 auDA AGM;

“Dear Cameron,
To improve the communications and engagement between auDA, auDA members and auDA Board may I suggest auDA sets up and official auDA web forum for the auDA Candidates and Election.
CIRA seems to be one of the best online public formats around to look at and of course auDA could improve on that example where possible for the auDA 2017 Election.
It would be crucial for auDA Board Candidates to post their Candidate statements on the official auDA forum and for some form of public online Q and A. Note the CIRA election is also online;

“Participate in the campaign forum
The campaign forum in an online platform that facilitates discussions between candidates and members. Get to know the candidates by engaging in discussions about key points in their election platforms, issues affecting .CA, and the Internet in Canada and abroad. The campaign forum will help you make an informed decision when casting your vote in the board of directors election.
The forum is open from September 12 to September 19, 2017. Chat with the candidates during a online “Town Hall” on September 13 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. ET . This is an ideal time to ask candidates questions and get immediate responses.”
I find this statement concerning as it sounds like AUDA intends to make a decision based on what it wants again rather than what members would have wanted.
This is supposed to be about finding a suitable replacement for the original *elected* director. Qualifications like the above have no relevance to what demand members would want.
@Snoopy – hammer; nail; head (as usual).
If anyone from auDA trys the same bulldust as last time, then their words from the SGM are worthless. Shane has “Demand Class” experience – simple as that. And he came 3rd last election.
The fact is, in 3 months time, anyone can stand without any past demonstrated “company director” experience – and it doesn’t matter if they were a bikie; a dustman; or a Prime Minister in a past life. The members vote for them then.
auDA – please prove that your promises of listening to members are not just hollow words – and that “tomorrow does indeed start today”.
I hope Shane puts his hand up for this position.
When did the company director class come about?
The farce continues.
