Would You Bid On This Domain Name?

On the expired auctions today is the domain name ABO com au.

Normally an Australian 3L domain beginning with “A” and containing another vowel and a decent consonant would attract huge bids at auction – and much more at private sale of course.

The term or word “ABO” is obviously culturally offensive and inappropriate if used to describe an indigenous person.

But as an acronym domain name, there are many other meanings.

My entities would have one of the largest portfolios of 3L Aussie domains, and I have sold so many in nearly 20 years.

Fortunately, I am not bidding on expired domains any longer, so decision making is easy for me. But even if I was still buying, this is one acronym domain I would not bid on at any price. That’s my personal opinion and stance.

What is your opinion?

Taking a moral high ground where one does not need to be taken. It’s a LLL, but a poor quality one so I won’t be bidding for that reason.

Surprised you are no longer bidding on the drops as the new rules are very domainer friendly. Is this in relation to your recent domain news snippets 🙂

Ha ha Nobby! 🙂 If you are referring to the possible new drop catcher, absolutely not. My race is well and truly run. I can state that categorically.

Buying and selling has been fun, but at 65, I need to sell not buy! As my wife keeps telling me. And a few other circumstances have contributed to the decision.

I’ll say categorically that hand picking good quality domain names from Ned’s portfolio is better than buying on the drops sometimes. Once the last of these is gone…

      What is friendly about them?

On what basis would you (or any of us) be eligible to register this name (as per section 2.4.4 of the rules)? (Rhetorical question.)

I can remember when I lived in Darwin as a kid in the seventies and everyone used this as the standard term for aboriginal. Times have changed and I think this domain is useless now as no sensible person/company would use it.

For http://www.Abo.com.au maybe someone could use content like they use for http://www.Abo.com?

ABO.com is a big site registered also with the China Government for allowed content use. You can even see this on the footer!

auDA wants more Chinese content, coverage stakeholders and China customers it said as a reason for the new IDN’s! All they may need is some fake Australian presence again!

Absolutely agree with your article and good on you for giving it this focus and taking a principled position. I saw it too and was repelled. From an Australian point of view it’s a stinker….racist, culturally extremely offensive, insensitive and an outmoded dinosaur. And, lets face it, it’s .com.au, hence intended for the Australia market. I can’t imagine whoever thought this up and registered it didn’t know what they were doing. Let it disappear into the mire where it belongs.

I agree Julie. I went to a car dealership this week. The salesman said the colour of the car was black, so I said that’s it’s I’m gonna take my money elsewhere. So sick of all the racism out there.

In the end I settled for a white car.
