NamesCon Las Vegas – First Impressions

What a conference! What a place!

I arrived in Las Vegas at lunchtime on Saturday (local time). This was my first ever visit, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. During the day, the place seems dry and dusty with lots of tall buildings in the middle of nowhere. But at night, what a different story. The place just comes alive. Lights and action.

On the first night I joined some fellow members of Domain Boardroom at a wonderful Italian restaurant at the New York New York Hotel & Casino. It was great to put names to the faces of people I have chatted online with for the past six years.

Sunday

The first day of NamesCon involved registration first up. Got a great bag of goodies as part of the process.

Then followed a welcome by co-founder Jothan Frakes. After that is was just networking, networking and more networking! Lots of suppliers had tables set up in the “Network Lane”, and there were also “Topic Tables” moderated by some very knowledgeable people. So I just kept wandering around meeting as many people as I could. I think I’m going to have to buy another suitcase just to fit in all the business cards, flyers and giveaways. đŸ™‚

You can see the full schedule here.

The organisation of this conference is simply outstanding. Jothan and fellow co-founder Richard Lau (and all their team) deserve absolute plaudits.

In the evening there was a welcome party hosted by Rightside. I met some real celebrities including Elvis!

I’ll post some photos tomorrow, and report on Monday’s activities including the launch of the new Uniregistry. It’s going to be a gamechanger – particularly for Australian domain investors.

And speaking of Uniregistry, I was thrilled to have a chat with Frank Schilling. Amazing guy with a tremendous vision and passion for domains.
