This is a quick story of how an unfortunate minor accident on Hinchinbrook Island in North QLD had a happy ending with a new friendship – and the sale of HinchinbrookIsland.com.au.
Back in July, my wife and her friend (a hardy Scottish lass) set out to hike the magnificent Thorsborne Trail – which is a 4 to 5 day adventure. Unfortunately, my wife’s friend had a minor fall and fractured some ribs and a wrist. Hence the medivac from a beach (picture above).
My wife was left on the island, but unbeknown to her, Skipper John from Absolute North Charters organised to get her located and evacuated off the island with all their gear. He went absolutely above and beyond. No cost involved. I did not know him from a “bar of soap” back then.
Fast forward a month or two, and I got a call from a web designer enquiring about the domain name HinchinbrookIsland.com.au. I related the above story to him, and he said Skipper John was actually who he was enquiring for! Imagine that – serendipity in a way.
So long story short, Skipper John phoned me, and we did a very friendly deal. Given what he did for my wife and her friend, I gave him a substantially discounted price (compared to what he was willing to pay). Plus my wife and I have free boat trips for life (though I think John has got the best side of that part of the deal!). 🙂
It’s also wonderful to me when the right person or organisation ends up with the best possible domain name that they could have for their business. Absolute win / win.
The domain hasn’t been developed yet, but in the meantime, it is forwarded to Skipper John’s current business website.
P.S. And how remiss of me not to mention the wonderful crew of QG Air (QLD Government Air). So calm and professional. Also, our terrific QAS (QLD Ambulance Service) 🙏 👍
Great story, Ned. I love to hear when a domain name finds a great home and both parties are happy.
Great story Ned, both efforts turned into great results and a new friendship
