After my big scare last week, I’m out of hospital, and raring to go. Of course, I will do so in a sedate and cautious manner befitting of the circumstances! đŸ™‚
Thank you to everyone who sent me their best wishes. They were really appreciated.
What’s Ahead
There are going to be some big changes to Domainer.com.au in the near future. Hopefully they will be well received, so please stay tuned.
As far as future articles are concerned, I came up with some great ideas whilst lying in my hospital bed. I’ll flesh these out over the next couple of weeks.
Direct Registrations
This topic is still foremost in my mind, and I’ll be devoting many pages to this subject over the next months.
I accept the fact that the auDA Board want direct registrations to happen (even though I and many others still don’t see the need).
What is going to be vitally important in the months ahead is the discussion on implementation. Certain assurances have been given in the past that this will be a proper consultative process i.e. a working group that comes up with suggestions – followed by proper public consultations. With regards the latter, auDA is very aware that it needs to lift its game in terms of engaging and informing its 1.7 million individual registrants. I am confident that they will do so this time around.
A Taster
An upcoming article will have a look at the .uk and .nz spaces to see which big businesses are using the shorter extension. I’ll give you a little hint – the answer is not many at this stage! Looking at the spaces that have gone before us in terms of direct registrations is always enlightening. đŸ˜‰
Check out Alexa’s top websites for each country, and you’ll see what I mean. Then have a look to see if these enterprises even have the shorter domain re-directing to either the .co.uk or .co.nz. In most cases, you’ll get an error page. So much for the shorter domain name being the go to option! Methinks that tried, tested and familiar wins the day. The big players obviously think so too.
Until next time.
