When “Everything” Can Be Too Much

When going through the list of expiring domains on AusRegistry, I noticed that there is a particular niche of geographic domains dropping tomorrow. There is one common denominator – the word “everything”.

Names like:

  • everythingalicesprings.com.au
  • everythingballarat.com.au
  • everythingdarwin.com.au
  • everythinghobart.com.au
  • everythingnewcastle.com.au
  • everythingsunshinecoast.com.au
  • everythingtownsville.com.au

Believe it or not, there are 93 in total – the old credit card definitely got a good bashing 25 months ago!

What Were They Thinking?

I certainly don’t want to be critical of the registrant. He’s had a big idea – and so he’s had a go. Unfortunately, it didn’t pan out for him.

We’ve all done similar things in the past (I know I have!).

But there is more to this story. When I did a little digging, I noticed that this entrepreneur obviously had a business idea that he thought he could replicate throughout Australia.

Have a look at everythingmandurah.com.au – this seems to be going well for him. It is a combination of news and community items on Mandurah in Western Australia – along with paid infomercials on local businesses.

Unfortunately – as he has found out – it’s very hard to scale projects like this. Hence 93 domains dropping tomorrow. But no doubt, it has been a great learning curve – and I wish him all the best in the future.
