Best Selling Domains (By Far!)

Businesses of all sizes are becoming increasingly aware of the power and “brandability” of 3 letter domains. Particularly if they have a 3 word business, partnership or company name.

Given their uniqueness and scarcity, they are also becoming far more valuable – it’s simple supply and demand economics.

Once a particular set of letters have been purchased, the chances of acquiring them again are low. And if you do have the opportunity, I can guarantee you that the price will be exponentially higher as the market grows.

Four Good Reasons

I could offer up at least 10 reasons why it is a “no brainer” to try and acquire a 3 letter domain – but these are the main four in my opinion.

  • A 3 letter domain name is easy to remember; & gives businesses credibility & trust in the marketplace.
  • Short and easy to type – people simply don’t want to type in a long name.
  • Particularly significant for mobile internet search – a huge percentage of eCommerce transactions happen on mobile or tablet these days.
  • Would you be disappointed if your competition or some other business acquired “YOUR ACRONYM”? I have seen it happen quite a few times!

How Much Are They?

Current sales prices see these selling from lowish 4 figures. Some particularly good ones (that are also brandables) have sold for substantial 5 figure amounts (like spa.com.au). This is just a drop in the ocean for an asset that is going to be of benefit for many years.

On average, my 3L domain sales have been between $3000 and $8000 (+ GST).

After the initial up front expenditure, it’s only costs about $25 every two years to keep the domain name renewed. Ask yourself what other types of advertising and branding cost you on a regular basis? Print, TV, radio, billboards for instance.

A good short domain name that is yours forever has got to be a “no brainer” decision!

Final Thoughts

If your “letters” are available for purchase on the aftermarket, then have a good crack at acquiring the domain. Nothing ventured; nothing gained!

If you snooze; you could well lose.
